The successful candidate will run our team of editors, staff reporters and contributors as well as collaborating closely with our multimedia, social media and other departments.

We are looking for an experienced and gifted news editor with a deep knowledge of the country, an eye for identifying potential stories and the skills to bring them to fruition. You should be adept at storytelling in words and video and on social media platforms. First-rate editing skills are a must and experience in multimedia, be it overseeing or fronting video productions, is a strong advantage. Demonstrable experience running a news operation is required.

The National News, the Middle East’s leading quality news organisation, is looking for a Deputy Foreign Editor to help lead its global news coverage. Based in Abu Dhabi, this role supports the Foreign Editor in managing a team of editors, correspondents, and video journalists to deliver breaking news, exclusives, and in-depth analysis across digital and print platforms.

The ideal candidate will have strong editorial judgment, leadership skills, and deep knowledge of Middle East affairs. You will help shape the news agenda, commission and edit content, oversee coverage of major events, and ensure high editorial standards.

Requirements:

• Master’s or Bachelor's degree in journalism, political science, international relations, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of journalism experience, with at least 5 years in a senior editorial or newsroom management role.
• Proven experience managing foreign news coverage, preferably within the Middle East.
• Sharp editorial judgment with the ability to identify compelling stories and oversee complex coverage.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent writing and editing abilities with a focus on accuracy, clarity, and speed.
• Deep understanding of Middle East politics, international relations, and global affairs.
• Fluent in English; Arabic is a strong advantage.

Role Summary:
We're looking for an experienced Business / Energy Reporter to join our dynamic newsroom. In this role, you will deliver in-depth coverage of the energy sector, focusing on oil, gas, renewables, and energy transition trends.

Key Responsibilities:

• Report on major energy developments, including policy shifts, corporate strategies, and geopolitical influences.
• Deliver high-impact stories, analysis, and features on oil, gas, renewables, and energy transitions.
• Provide real-time coverage of breaking news and market-moving events.
• Conduct in-depth interviews with industry leaders, policymakers, and analysts.
• Cover industry events, conferences, and summits across the region.
• Write general business news reports in addition to energy-focused coverage.
• Create engaging content for social media, including visuals and data-driven reports.

Key Skills, Experience, and Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Economics, Communications, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in business, financial, or energy reporting, preferably in the Middle East.
• Strong understanding of global energy markets, commodity trading, and geoeconomics.
• Excellent writing and reporting skills with the ability to simplify complex topics.
• Established industry contacts and a track record of breaking exclusive stories.
• Experience with multimedia storytelling, data visualization, or social media is a plus.
• Fluency in English is essential; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.

Role Summary:
Are you a creative storyteller with a passion for compelling video journalism? Do you thrive on uncovering stories that matter and turning them into engaging visual narratives? If so, we want you to join us as a Video Journalist with our bureau in Beirut.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce high-quality news and feature videos, aligned with our editorial focus.
• Shoot b-roll, interviews and live events with professional equipment.
• Edit and script videos for website and social media platforms.
• Ensure footage is verified, accurate and meets editorial standards.
• Monitor regional current affairs and identify compelling visual stories.
• Collaborate with newsroom colleagues to optimise reach and engagement.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Advanced video shooting and editing skills (Adobe Premiere Pro or similar).
• Strong editorial judgement and understanding of regional affairs.
• Ability to work independently in fast-paced and high-pressure environments.
• Motion graphics, mobile journalism and drone skills are a plus.
• On-camera performance or voiceover experience is an advantage.
• Fluency in English required; Arabic proficiency is a plus.
• Degree in Journalism, Multimedia Production or a related field.

We are looking for a Senior Data Visualisation Journalist to join our new data and forensic team. This role is perfect for a data-driven storyteller eager to work on impactful investigations, create compelling narratives, and enhance digital storytelling through innovative visualizations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with editors and reporters to uncover and develop data-driven stories
• Analyse, clean, and visualize data to produce engaging content for The National’s digital platforms
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of data-driven reporting through rigorous fact-checking
• Create and pitch original data investigations, introducing fresh, innovative ideas
• Work closely with designers and developers to craft interactive visual stories
• Provide news insights and context on major events through data analysis
• Contribute to The National’s social media strategy with tailored data visualisations
• Uphold journalistic ethics and best practices in all reporting

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Data Science, or a related field
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in data journalism
• Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools (Flourish, Tableau, D3.js, Adobe Illustrator)
• Experience with HTML or custom CMS platforms is preferred
• Strong analytical skills and ability to simplify complex data for broad audiences
• Fluency in English (Arabic is a plus)
• Proven expertise in data storytelling, with a strong portfolio
