Ireland's President Michael D Higgins and Prime Minister Simon Harris met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for talks on the war in Gaza and enhancing bilateral ties on Wednesday.
The leaders discussed the Middle East situation, including the political upheaval in Syria, according to Mr Higgins's office.
“The outrageous suffering in the absence of a ceasefire in Gaza was the central part of their discussion,” the statement added.
Mr Harris said in a post on LinkedIn “We also spoke of Irish / Egyptian relations and a number of important consular and trade matters.”
There had also been “agreement on the need to expand international recognition of the Palestinian state”, said Egyptian presidential spokesman Mohamed El Shenawy.
Ireland is among several European countries which in May formally recognised the state of Palestine, drawing anger from Israel.
Mr El Sisi praised Dublin's “courageous positions in support of the Palestinian cause,” Mr Shenawy added.
Eight Gazan children and their families, currently in Egypt, will soon be medically evacuated to Ireland, the Irish statement said.
The Dublin visit was the final leg of a European tour by Mr El Sisi that included visits to Norway and Denmark.
It marked the first trip to Ireland by Mr El Sisi since Hosni Mubarak visited in 2006.

Conflict, drought, famine
Estimates of the number of deaths caused by the famine range from 400,000 to 1 million, according to a document prepared for the UK House of Lords in 2024.
It has been claimed that the policies of the Ethiopian government, which took control after deposing Emperor Haile Selassie in a military-led revolution in 1974, contributed to the scale of the famine.
Dr Miriam Bradley, senior lecturer in humanitarian studies at the University of Manchester, has argued that, by the early 1980s, “several government policies combined to cause, rather than prevent, a famine which lasted from 1983 to 1985. Mengistu’s government imposed Stalinist-model agricultural policies involving forced collectivisation and villagisation [relocation of communities into planned villages].
The West became aware of the catastrophe through a series of BBC News reports by journalist Michael Buerk in October 1984 describing a “biblical famine” and containing graphic images of thousands of people, including children, facing starvation.
Band Aid
Bob Geldof, singer with the Irish rock group The Boomtown Rats, formed Band Aid in response to the horrific images shown in the news broadcasts.
With Midge Ure of the band Ultravox, he wrote the hit charity single Do They Know it’s Christmas in December 1984, featuring a string of high-profile musicians.
Following the single’s success, the idea to stage a rock concert evolved.
Live Aid was a series of simultaneous concerts that took place at Wembley Stadium in London, John F Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, the US, and at various other venues across the world.
The combined event was broadcast to an estimated worldwide audience of 1.5 billion.

Financial considerations before buying a property
Buyers should try to pay as much in cash as possible for a property, limiting the mortgage value to as little as they can afford. This means they not only pay less in interest but their monthly costs are also reduced. Ideally, the monthly mortgage payment should not exceed 20 per cent of the purchaser’s total household income, says Carol Glynn, founder of Conscious Finance Coaching.
“If it’s a rental property, plan for the property to have periods when it does not have a tenant. Ensure you have enough cash set aside to pay the mortgage and other costs during these periods, ideally at least six months,” she says.
